The Guelph Family Health Team has partnered with HopeSpring to bring new, supportive programming to those in the Guelph community living or affected by cancer. 

HopeSpring now offers a variety of their programs and services through the Guelph Family Health Team's head office. The programs and services are confidential, free of charge and open to people who are newly diagnosed, living with cancer or post-treatment and their caregivers. 

Registration is required and is NOT completed through the Guelph Family Health Team.

SELF – Better Health, Better Life, Better You

Stress manifests itself in real conditions mentally, physically and emotionally.  SELF is a program that will help you feel better about yourself, get relief or change in your overall health and improve the quality of your life in work or home. 

You will learn how stress impacts your mind and body and how to develop healthy coping strategies and life skills.  This program will help you identify your priorities and develop a plan.  This is a two-session program.

Cancer Talk & Questions Event

Come out and listen to our panel chosen with you in mind discussing a wide range of cancer topics and challenges that will be of interest to you.  This session will be moderated and we will be accepting your panel questions in advance when you register for this event. Panel participants will be announced closer to the date so watch our website for updates.

Lymphedema Gentle Exercise

This gentle exercise program helps with reducing the swelling of the affected limb (or trunk, neck, back, chestwall or groin) caused by the accumulation of Lymph fluid due to damaged Lymphatic pathways.  This program serves those with either primary or secondary Lymphedema as well as anyone who would benefit from a gentle workout especially during the time following surgery when a gentle way must be taken to promote movement and without over-exerting oneself.

Healing Journey 1 – Coping with Stress

This is a 6-week program. Cancer can be a frightening and overwhelming experience.

Our signature program, The Healing Journey, is an exciting and innovative program which brings together some of the most effective tools and strategies for helping people deal with  the experience of cancer and greatly improving their quality of life.

Developed by Dr. Alastair Cunningham, a senior scientist and psychologist at the Ontario Cancer Centre, The Healing Journey Level 1 has been exhaustively tested for the past 30 years and “shown to be able to relieve much of the anxiety and depression, confusion, pain, fatigue, and other forms of distress induced by a cancer diagnosis.”

Healthy Cooking

This is a 6-week interactive program that promotes fun and relaxation through participatory food preparation. Enjoy learning about healthy cooking in an atmosphere of acceptance and encouragement from one another.

You will prepare healthy recipes approved by the Canadian Cancer Society.  Learn how to identify healthy food choices and habits.  Increase your food planning & shopping skills to prepare healthy meals and snacks.  You will be provided with a folder to store all of your recipes and other helpful resource information.   Near the end of each session you will eat and enjoy the food you prepared with your group.

Laughter Yoga NEW

Laughter Yoga is a practice which combines yoga breathing and laughter exercises. The fun and gentle activity boosts the immune system and stimulates the brain to produce endorphins – feel good hormones.  Whether your laughter is real or not, your body will get the benefits of this wonderful program. It’s great for all ages and stages of recovery including family & caregivers. Dress comfortably.

Gentle Yoga

Gentle Yoga combines breathing, body awareness and deep relaxation.  The gentle postures help stretch and strengthen the body.

Reiki is an ancient form of healing.  Reiki practitioners consciously direct energy into your body as you sit or lie quietly.  The practitioner follows a precise method of hand placement using a gentle touch directly on or just above your body.  You will be asked if you have had recent surgery or if there is any other reason not to touch you directly.  Please note you can request a no touch session and the relaxation experience will be similar.

Wigs & Camisoles

HopeSpring offers wigs and head coverings to those losing their hair due to cancer treatment. We are able to offer the wigs we purchase free of charge, as all of our services, thanks to the generosity of our donors.

We are also pleased to provide Post mastectomy camisoles to women undergoing, or who have recently had a mastectomy free of charge.
